Appreciation > Melancholia

deskI happened upon some snow graffiti on my way to work one afternoon.

Very sensitive to the injustices of our world, perpetually perturbed by misguided societal morals, and a penchant for melancholia (as well as the Oxford comma), I’ve had to make the mindful decision of carving out a little happiness for myself. By cultivating a deep appreciation for the world around me, the benefits given me, and the time allowed me, I’ve opened myself up to all of the good, in order to combat all of the bad. Taking in all of my home city’s unique urban culture, engaging daily with nature, celebrating art in all its glorious forms, respecting friendships, family, and myself, gastronomy, astronomy, and autonomy… all of these things are worth focusing on. I hope to gain a better perspective by habitually practicing gratitude, appreciating and documenting my experiences, and creating a safe space in which to circle back to should I lose some of my sparkle. If by doing so I can inspire other wayward, wavering individuals to keep in perspective all of the enchanting rosiness that life has to offer – even better.

  1. Nicely summarized! I always try and appreciate the little things as well. Though it might not always be easy, especially when there is so much happening, I find that focusing on less helps ground me.
